HAITI EFFORT

On January 12th 2010 a 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti. The Trauma Association of Canada Disaster/International Committee would like to express our deepest sympathies for all those affected. As concerned health providers we would also like to assist our membership to obtain information about the event and provide relevant links to understand how we might help.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends that Canadians avoid all non-essential travel to Haiti at this time. More information:

ORGANIZATION UPDATES

  • AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS (ACS)
    A centralized telephone answering center to respond to queries related to the situation.

    The centralized telephone answering center is staffed during regular working hours (8 am to 5 pm CST Monday through Friday) and checked on a regular basis by the ACS Trauma Program staff. That number is 312-202-5155.
     

  • Mirrored Update Haiti resource pages on the Committee on Trauma (COT) and Operation Giving Back (OBG) Web sites.

    These sites include eyewitness reports from surgeons; information from the CDC; recognized resources such as peer-reviewed articles and College program materials (ATLS and ASSET); a Google map of relief efforts; and relevant and useful slides sets, videos, and other documents (military statements).
